This week we bring you one of the most fascinating success stories of a NEET Aspirant who aced the competitive exam after failing his first attempt. The lessons learned and shared by the aspirant will serve many student batches to emulate and pass the examination with flying colors.
Why did I fail to secure a good rank in NEET?
Lack of regularity: Consistency is crucial. It is essential to fully grasp the daily lessons on the same day they are taught. Homework must be completed diligently and biology topics covered in class should be revisited every day from NCERT.
Lack of practice: Repetition is crucial in every academic discipline. Merely observing running tutorials on YouTube will not transform you into Usain Bolt. Similarly, reading about physics will not automatically make you subject-proficient. It is imperative to actively engage in practical application, just as one would hit the field and run, stumble, rise, and run again. This principle also applies to physics and physical chemistry. Cultivate a thirst for inquiries and strive to solve numerous problems. The more questions you tackle, the greater your self-confidence, and the less time you will require to solve them.
Memorizing formulas without applying them: When it comes to formulas, it is crucial to commit them to memory accurately, ensuring that every detail is known before applying them to solve problems.
Referred to books that were unnecessary for biology: Individuals may suggest various readings, but I opted for Trueman’s Biology. While NCERTs suffice for NEET and AIIMS, a few questions may stray beyond their scope, which is usually found in coaching modules.
Neglected previous years’ questions: It is highly recommended to practice solving past year’s questions multiple times as many questions in the actual exam are derived from them. I noticed a significant resemblance between some questions in NEET 19 and those from the previous year’s paper.
Didn’t go for mock tests: It is advisable to take mock as they are essential for improving time management, reducing mistakes, and practicing filling out the OMR sheet. Engaging in mock tests will boost your confidence and should be approached with the same seriousness as the actual exam.
How did I CLEAR THE NEET EXAM in 10 months?
I have corrected the errors committed (mentioned above) during the two preparatory years of NEET 18. Besides these, I did the following:
Create concise summaries for every chapter in physics and chemistry: Summaries must be prepared after each chapter. These summaries should encompass all crucial points, formulas (accompanied by explanations), and a few conceptual questions to aid your review.
Time management is crucial for NEET, as candidates need to solve 180 questions within 180 minutes.
Obtained sufficient rest: I managed to sleep for a minimum of 6 hours every day. This is because ONLY a rejuvenated and calm mind is more capable of comprehending concepts effortlessly.
Focus on the quality of your study sessions rather than the quantity of hours spent studying.: Measure your progress by the number of topics you have mastered, and not by the amount of time spent.
Daily revision: It is essential to review your studies daily to ensure that you retain the knowledge you acquired several months ago.
Not demoralized by poor test scores: While ranks and scores hold significance, you should also analyze your mistakes when you score lower. By doing so, you can avoid repeating the same errors in the future. Never skip any test as each offers an opportunity to learn something new.
