JEE Update: SC to Hear JEE Advanced 2025 Third Attempt Limit Plea on January 6; Exam Registration Opens on April 23

The Supreme Court is scheduled to consider the petition regarding the limit on the third attempt for the JEE Advanced 2025 on January 6. Additionally, registration for the examination will commence on April 23.

The Supreme Court is set to hear the case concerning the reinstatement of the three-attempt limit for the JEE Advanced 2025 on January 6, 2025, after its initial listing on December 20. The Joint Admission Board (JAB), which oversees the administration of the JEE Advanced for admissions to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), announced a change to the examination’s attempt policy on November 5, 2024, allowing candidates three attempts. However, this decision was rescinded on November 18, 2024, returning to the prior restriction of two attempts per candidate.

A legal challenge has been initiated by 22 students from 12 states, who claim that the swift alterations to the JEE Advanced 2025 attempt limit policy—specifically, the transition from two attempts to three and then reverting to two within just three weeks—have caused considerable academic and emotional turmoil. The petitioners argue that they began their preparations with the expectation of having a third attempt, which has now been rescinded.
